Summary

This method is a variation of the Repertory Grid Technique, reported elsewhere in this methods toolkit.

Description

Several different designs are presented to the participant simultaneously. The participant is asked to group the designs into as many piles as s/he likes and s/he is then interviewed on the reasons for the categorization. The categorization is continued with different design-triads until the participant cannot categorize the items in new ways. A Multidimensional Scalogram Analysis is used to create spatial maps of constructs. These spatial maps are analysed with the interview data.
